Good Attendance
Good attendance helps children succeed at school and supports their wellbeing. When children attend every day, they stay on track with learning, build confidence and feel secure as part of school life.
At 1, we place strong importance on regular attendance because even small amounts of missed time can quickly affect progress, friendships and wider development.
By law, all children of school age (aged four to sixteen) must receive a full-time education. For most families, this means registering your child at a school. Once your child is registered, you are responsible for making sure they attend regularly.
Attendance has a direct impact on learning. For example, a child who attends school 90% of the time will miss around 19 days across the year – almost four weeks of learning. Over time, this can create gaps that are difficult to close.
For younger children, this can mean missing a significant number of guided learning hours. Regular attendance helps children build strong routines and maintain steady progress.
We work closely with families to support good attendance and will always offer guidance where needed. Our attendance policy, available below, provides further information on:
- School opening, registration and closing times
- How to contact the school about your child’s attendance
- What to do if your child is late or unwell
- Requesting leave during term time
